I used to color a lot. Then I started having back and neck issues and it wasn't as easy to color anymore. I did it less and less and then totally stopped. But I missed it a lot, as a creative thing but also because it helped me feel less stressed out.

Now I'm back to coloring again. I take more breaks and hopefully that will help make it easier on my back and neck.

Here's one of the pics I colored this week. It's from Grayscale Flowers Coloring Book for Adults, by C A Bloomfield. The nice thing about grayscale is that the shading is already done for you!

From the Beautiful Women Grayscale Coloring Book by Ava Browne.

I wanted the entire picture to have pastel colors, but then I added red to one of her shirt sleeves, then to her hair and the flowers, so my plans changed, lol.

Grayscale adds the shading for you, but I also put my own dark shading on her face and neck.

I used alcohol brush markers, sparkle pop and milky pop gel pens.

This is the first thing I've colored with my new Caliart alcohol markers. It's a great price... only $21.99 for 40 pens. Nice colors and they don't bleed. They have a fine tip for smaller areas, and a broad tip that's great for backgrounds or larger areas. I also used a Copic marker for the skin. The difference is that Copics have a brush tip, which is nice for blending and it feels more like a paint brush. You can still blend with the Caliart markers, it just has a different feel to it.

I colored this in less than an hour. It's so easy on the hands and wrists!

It's the time of year for autumn coloring. :) This is another one from Nikki Burnette's grayscale coloring book, done with alcohol markers and sharpies.

From the Nikki Burnette grayscale coloring book - Tesla the steampunk girl!

I did the skin with sharpies, the background with eye shadow, and the rest of it with prismacolor pencils. :)

Also, I used a filter to smooth it out a bit, because it looked too grainy.

This is from Nikki Burnette's grayscale coloring book (same as the last colorings that I posted). I followed her tutorial, and used prismacolor pencils (except for the background which was done with eye shadow).

This is "Riley", one of her steampunk images, and I love the adorable cat with the monocle! :)

I'm trying something new... grayscale coloring! The shading is already added to the picture. These are my first attempts, and I'm experimenting with different ways of coloring it.

I used prismacolor pencils, sharpies, and white gel pen on the first one, and mostly sharpies on the second one. And I tried one of the techniques that she recommended in the book... dipping the tip of the pencil in petroleum jelly. It makes it very smooth, and brightens the colors. And I found out that very dark colors cover the shading (the top half of the fairy pic)... the background of the mermaid pic was more translucent. Also, it's hard to see, but I did color the skin of the fairy with pencils.

Anyway, this was fun and I'm sure I'll do more of them. I also have a grayscale coloring book of cute animals. :)

From the Lisa Frank Adult Coloring book. I love unicorns, so I started with this one!

I made the unicorn pink, but then decided to go for rainbow colors, so I needed to change it. I picked red, cause that was the best choice to cover the pink.

Instead of making the background one color, I divided it up, starting with red on the bottom. Then I took the color above it (orange), and used that for the stars. I continued the pattern (orange background with yellow stars, yellow background with green stars, etc, etc), and finished it with some white gel pen dots.

Spring bunnies!:)

I used sharpies, and a white gel pen to add dots to the leaves, vines, strawberries, and some of the flowers. After I did the orange background, I added dots with a red gel pen.

The lighting makes the border look faded on the left side, it's really all dark brown!

This was done with Sharpies, and I added some dots with a white gel pen, and a green glitter gel pen. :)
